Welcome To Cornell Center for Materials Research

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) 2023

June 6 – August 12. 2023

CCMR REU students work directly with faculty on interdisciplinary materials research projects involving chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering disciplines. Students will also participate in an organized program of lectures, laboratory visits, and a variety of recreational activities. Applicants select their top five projects from a list of projects available in 2023.

The 10-week program takes place on Cornell's Ithaca campus and includes: a stipend of $5,000; free housing in a Cornell University dorm; and additional travel funds for non-CU students. The CCMR REU Program requires residency at Cornell Ithaca campus from June 2 to August 12, 2023, attendance of all program sessions, and completion of all assigned projects. The CCMR REU participants are required to work full-time in the program and may not hold outside jobs or enroll in classes. Payment of the stipend is conditioned on the completion of all requirements.

COVID-19 Notice

Due to the uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 situation in New York, the CCMR reserves the right to make modifications to the REU Program features and requirements. The CCMR is planning to host an in-person program, however, circumstances might require the CCMR to shift to a remote or hybrid program.
Project descriptions will indicate which projects cannot run remotely. Applicants will be notified of all developments and changes to program requirements.
All accepted candidates will be required to sign the Cornell University Student Behavioral Compact upon arriving on campus for the 10-week program. See https://covid.cornell.edu/students/behavioral-compact/ for the current compact.
